OopsTab Privacy Policy

Introduction

OopsTab is a browser extension designed to preserve your browsing context by capturing snapshots of your browser windows and allowing you to restore them later. This privacy policy explains what information OopsTab accesses, how it's used, stored, and your rights regarding this data.

What Data OopsTab Uses (Stored Locally Only)

To provide its core functionality — saving and restoring browser sessions — OopsTab temporarily accesses tab and window information. This data is processed and stored entirely within your browser’s local storage and is never transmitted to any external server or third party.

Tab Information

  • URLs of open web pages

  • Page titles

  • Tab positions and pinned status

  • Favicon URLs

  • Tab grouping metadata (e.g., title, color, position)

Window Information

  • Structure and layout of browser windows

  • Relationships between tabs within each window

  • Custom names you assign to your saved snapshots

💡 This data is used strictly to create accurate snapshots of your session so that you can reopen your browsing environment exactly as you left it.

Third-Party Services

OopsTab DOES NOT use any third-party analytics, tracking, error reporting, or advertising tools. The extension functions entirely within your browser environment.

Data Storage

Local Storage

By default, all data accessed by OopsTab is stored exclusively in your local browser storage:

  • Tab snapshots are stored in chrome.storage.local

  • Window mappings and configuration are stored in chrome.storage.local

  • No data is transmitted to external servers

Optional Sync Storage

OopsTab offers an optional sync feature that, when enabled, will:

  • Store your snapshots in chrome.storage.sync

  • Allow your snapshots to be synchronized across your devices where you're signed into the same browser account

This feature is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled in settings.

When sync is enabled, your data is subject to your browser's sync service privacy policy:

Note: Chrome’s local storage limit is approximately 5MB. If this limit is exceeded, older data may be pruned automatically by the browser.

Browser Permissions

OopsTab requires the following permissions to function:

  • tabs: To access and manage your browser tabs

  • storage: To store snapshot data locally

  • sessions: To restore browser sessions

  • tabGroups: To manage and restore tab groups

These permissions are used solely for the core functionality of the extension and not for collecting or transmitting any personal information beyond what's necessary for the application to function.

Data Control and Retention

Your Control Over Data

You have full control over the data stored by OopsTab. You can:

  • Delete individual snapshots directly from the extension interface

  • Delete all snapshots via the settings panel

  • Export your snapshots as a local JSON file

  • Import previously exported snapshots

No external entity has access to your data, and nothing is shared outside your browser.

Data Retention

OopsTab retains your snapshot data until:

  • You manually delete snapshots

  • You uninstall the extension

  • The browser storage limits are reached (at which point older, less frequently used snapshots may be automatically pruned)

Disclaimer

OopsTab is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. While we strive to ensure reliable performance, we cannot guarantee that your snapshot data will be preserved under all circumstances, such as due to browser limitations, unexpected errors, or local storage constraints.

Users are solely responsible for regularly exporting their snapshot data if long-term retention is critical. OopsTab does not accept liability for any loss of data or browsing session information.

Children’s Privacy

OopsTab is not directed at individuals under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
